Basic Life Support (BLS)


The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

What does this course teach?

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

HEARTSAVER FIRST AID/CPR/AED


Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is geared towards anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

  • Preventing illness and injury
  • Adult CPR and AED use

HEARTSAVER FOR K-12 SCHOOLS


Heartsaver® CPR AED course is exclusively for K-12 students, faculty, and staff. The Heartsaver CPR AED course is designed to prepare students to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner.


Who should take this course?

The Heartsaver courses are designed to be flexible and customizable with optional modules, and are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course .                     

What does this course teach?

  • describe how high-quality CPR improves survival
  • explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • recognize when someone needs CPR
  • perform high-quality CPR for an adult alone or as a team member during multi-rescuer CPR (child and infant CPR modules are optional)
  • give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a barrier device for all age groups
  • demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult (child and infant AED modules are optional)
  • describe when and how to help a choking adult or child (infant choking module is optional).

BLS SKILLS TEST


The BLS Skills Testing - Only for students who completed the online course


Requirements

Students must complete the online portion before coming in for the skills testing. To complete the online class, please go to the below link.

When finished, print out the Certificate of Completion and bring it to class. You can also email to the office before class.  Please confirm it was received.

Skills Practice & Testing

Please make sure you're comfortable performing the following skills:

  • chest compressions
  • pocket-mask ventilations
  • bag mask ventilation
  • use of the AED (defibrillator)

The Instructor will test your skills by having you perform a scenario without any assistance from the instructor.  Once the adult check off is complete, you'll then follow the same process for the infant skills and scenario.


Upon successful completion of your BLS Skills session, you will receive your 2-year American Heart Association BLS providers certification.
